While wife Gisele Bündchen takes care of the household and children during her husband’s season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady takes over during the offseason. And breaks many of the rules laid down in the process, as he reveals.
Munich – As a quarterback, Tom Brady is the “GOAT.” Arguably the best playmaker in NFL history. Role model. Icon. Legend.
And with his 44 years still active at the very highest level. So that with his Tampa Bay Buccaneers at a 6-1 record in the season following their Super Bowl triumph, he is once again a hot favourite to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Tom Brady: Self-critical father
While Brady knows what he can do on the football field, his role as a dad is a different story. There Brady is very self-critical, as he reveals in his podcast “Let’s go!” with Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray.
“I try to do my best with the kids. Although I wish I was around more,” Brady said, “But I think if I was around too much, they might get tired of it, too, because I screw up everything that’s actually going on in the house for a long time,” he joked.
Brady and Bündchen have son Benjamin (11) and daughter Vivian (8). With actress Bridget Moynahan, Brady also has 14-year-old son Jack.
During the season, it is his wife Gisele Bündchen who pulls the strings. She is the one who manages the household, sets the rules and makes sure they are followed. Until Brady tears it all down again.
Brady admits that he is “a bit more lenient” than Gisele. “My wife is pretty strict about a lot of things,” he said, “and of course I come in and break a lot of the rules…. whether it’s the time the kids are allowed to spend on their electronic devices or the time they go to bed or their chores in the morning. Those are the things I have to get back up to speed on.”
That’s because he takes on a lot of responsibilities in the offseason. “Although a lot of times I don’t think I do it well,” he said. “And I think what’s hard for me is my kids are getting older…. They have a lot of questions. They’re very curious about a lot of things. And they are growing up fast.”
While his wife has long had his back, the time is now approaching when the roles could change once again. Bündchen officially ended her catwalk career in 2015, but still works as a model now and then.
Brady: “There are things she still wants to achieve “
“There are things she still wants to achieve. She hasn’t worked as much in the last ten, 12 years because she raised our kids and got involved in a life in Boston and then moved to Florida,” said Brady, who is yet to say how long he will actually play now.
He admits, “But that’s a problem, and it’s very difficult to balance that without just saying, ‘Hey, it’s time to retire.’ And I think we’re coming to the end here too, so I don’t want to miss out on any of the kids. “
