Good news for the Green Bay Packers: According to court records, the first court date for running back Josh Jacobs’ hearing has been moved up by two months.

The date was originally set for November 17, but now the athlete must appear in court as early as Thursday, September 10.

Jacobs faces two charges in Brown County Circuit Court in the state of Wisconsin: assault and property damage. Both charges stem from an incident at his home on May 23, during which he was originally charged with domestic violence against his girlfriend.

Last Sunday, the 28-year-old was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and has since been barred from participating in any Packers activities. This means he is prohibited from attending practices and games.

Will the Packers get clarity sooner?

Head Coach Matt LaFleur has already told U.S. reporters that he expects Jacobs to remain with the team once the court proceedings are concluded.

The now-moved-up hearing date could also provide clarity on Jacobs’s playing status—and do so much sooner than would have been possible under the original schedule.

As a result, a league suspension—regardless of the court proceedings—could begin and end much sooner due to the changed date.

Three days after the hearing, the Packers will play their first game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings.
