NFL: Suspension Following Allegations? Green Bay Packers Comment on Josh Jacobs

NFL star Josh Jacobs is facing charges. How are the Green Bay Packers handling the situation?

Turmoil at the Green Bay Packers: On Thursday, the Brown County District Attorney’s Office in the state of Wisconsin officially filed charges against running back Josh Jacobs. He faces two charges related to his arrest in May.

According to court documents, the charges are assault and property damage.

Police were called on May 23, arrested the NFL star, and detained him on various potential charges: assault, property damage, and disturbing the peace—all related to domestic violence. There were also reports of strangulation, suffocation, and intimidation of the victim.

“The Brown County District Attorney reviewed the evidence and decided to file charges against Josh for offenses unrelated to domestic violence,” the athlete’s attorneys stated.

Packers Prepared for Possible Suspension

The NFL is conducting its own investigation into the matter and may suspend the running back. It is unclear whether the league will take action before the start of the season or wait until the court proceedings. The first hearing is scheduled for November 17.

The Green Bay Packers, meanwhile, are aware that they could be without one of their top stars. “We’ll deal with it when the time comes, but of course we’ve already prepared for it in case it happens,” stated General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

He continued: “At the same time, though, I’m very confident in the guys we have on this roster, and I believe we can get through this.”

The Packers’ primary backup running back would be Marshawn Lloyd, who was selected in the third round of the 2024 draft but struggled with injuries during his first two years. Chris Brooks and Pierre Strong Jr. are also available as options.

A surveillance camera apparently captured the incident

Until now, there had been no further details regarding the Jacobs case, but on Thursday, the police changed that with the release of the incident report.

Among other things, the report describes a scuffle over the NFL star’s girlfriend’s cell phone that “lasted several minutes.” Jacobs had apparently snatched it from her and driven away in a car; his partner followed him and later began to yell at him.

Subsequently, the 28-year-old apparently threw her to the ground, causing her to sustain a head injury. He also damaged her cell phone. The relevant parts of the incident are said to have been recorded by surveillance cameras.

A police officer ultimately “noticed redness on [the girlfriend’s] face and neck and could feel that she had a bump on the back of her head,” according to the report.
