NFL: Seattle Seahawks Find New Owner – Record Sale Finalized

The Seattle Seahawks have found a new owner—and in doing so, are making NFL history. A group of investors led by billionaire Vinod Khosla is acquiring the franchise for a record $9.612 billion.

The Seattle Seahawks are set to change ownership. As the estate of the late team owner Paul Allen announced on Saturday, a group of investors led by entrepreneur Vinod Khosla has agreed to purchase the franchise.

According to a report by “ESPN,” the purchase price amounts to 9.612 billion US dollars. This would make the sale significantly higher than any previous record in the NFL and turn the Seahawks into the most expensive franchise in league history.

Khosla had already been touted in recent days as one of two favorites to take over the team. The venture-capital investor currently also holds a minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers. Since the 49ers, like the Seahawks, play in the NFC West, Khosla would have to sell that stake as part of the acquisition.

“We are honored to have been selected as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks. We look forward to continuing the successful legacy that Paul Allen created and earning the trust of the organization and Seahawks fans around the world,” Khosla said in an official statement.

NFL: Vinod Khosla’s Family to Lead the Seahawks

Although Vinod Khosla’s investment group is leading the effort, he himself will not be running the franchise. As reported by the “Washington Post,” his wife, Neeru Khosla, is expected to assume the role of controlling owner. This information has reportedly already been communicated to the teams in a league-wide memo.

According to the report, their son Neal Khosla will also play an important role in the future and assume key leadership responsibilities within the new ownership group.

NFL: Seahawks Sale Not Yet Official

Before the sale can be officially finalized, the remaining NFL team owners must still approve the deal. The league informed the franchises in a memo that the review of the relevant contract documents has already begun.

As things stand, the owners’ vote on the transaction is expected to take place later this summer.

With a purchase price of $9.612 billion, the sale of the Seahawks would significantly surpass the previous record set by the Washington Commanders in 2023—$6.05 billion for an NFL franchise—and once again underscore the league’s tremendous economic growth.
