NFL: Head Coach Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

Panthers head coach Dave Canales reveals that he recently underwent surgery to remove skin cancer.

News from the Carolina Panthers.

On Tuesday, Head Coach Dave Canales was seen with a bandage on his nose. Shortly thereafter, the head coach announced that he had recently undergone surgery to remove skin cancer.

Canales explained that he had participated in a routine skin cancer screening organized by the team.

During the exam, a small spot on his nose was found to be basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of non-melanoma skin cancer.

NFL: Canales’ mother also had the disease

“It’s a good reminder not to take things for granted,” Canales is quoted as saying by the Associated Press. “It was just a small spot, and they were able to remove it. I’m really grateful for that.”

The Panthers coach also mentioned that his mother had been diagnosed with skin cancer in her forties. For this reason, he takes special care to apply sunscreen regularly.
