NFL: New York Jets Sign Iconic Kicker – Competition for Lenny Krieg

German kicker Lenny Krieg is facing competition for his position on the New York Jets. The NFL team has signed an iconic pro.

According to a report by “SNY,” the New York Jets have bolstered their roster with Younghoe Koo.

The team currently has two players under contract at the position—Cade York and German Lenny Krieg—but is looking for a permanent solution for the new season.

Koo made his NFL debut in 2017. At that time, he appeared in four games for the Los Angeles Chargers. In 2019, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons, where he was named a Pro Bowler in 2020.

Falcons released Koo after seven years

He remained loyal to the Georgia-based franchise until last season, when the team released him after Week 2. Shortly thereafter, the New York Giants added him to their practice squad, before he was named the starter in Week 10 following an injury to Graham Gano, only to be released again after five games.

In his eight years in the NFL, the 31-year-old has made 185 field goals out of 218 attempts in 98 games. Koo is particularly strong from short and medium range. Out of 111 attempts from distances up to 39 yards, he missed only four.

Koo Saves a Life with a Missed Kick

Most recently, however, Koo had come to public attention with a very specific missed kick. Last season, Koo had made a man from Kentucky laugh so hard with a missed 47-yard field goal against the New England Patriots that the man suffered a seizure.

At the hospital, the football fan was diagnosed with a brain tumor that would otherwise have gone undetected. The life-threatening tumor was surgically removed, which is why Koo was hailed in the media as a lifesaver.
