Lamar Jackson and Co want to attack again in the coming season. After Trey Hendrickson, the Ravens are signing another defensive star and old acquaintance.
In the past season, the Ravens failed to qualify for the playoffs at the very last second after three consecutive appearances.
This season, things should go better for Lamar Jackson and Co – and the franchise is now bringing back defensive star Calais Campbell.
NFL: Only three active players have more sacks than Campbell
As reported by “The Athletic”, the 39-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the Ravens worth up to 5.5 million dollars. Campbell already played for the franchise from 2020 to 2022 and made the playoffs with the team in two of the three years.
With 117 sacks, he ranks fourth among all active players. Only Von Miller (138.5), Cameron Jordan (132) and Myles Garrett (125.5) are ahead of him. In total, he has been selected to the Pro Bowl six times.
In addition, he continues to be an outstanding defender against running plays. According to the American website “Pro Football Focus”, which analyzes NFL and NCAA Division I players, he achieved the 12th-best rating in run defense among all defensive linemen who played at least 50 percent of their team’s plays.
Campbell was drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2008 and played there for nine years before signing with Jacksonville and Baltimore for three years each. Most recently, the veteran played for the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins and again for the Cardinals last season.
Now the 39-year-old is set to stabilize the Ravens’ defence and strengthen the pass rush together with Trey Hendrickson.
