Myles Garrett is the superstar of the Cleveland Browns. However, drama is threatening to develop around him.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing the threat of drama surrounding their superstar Myles Garrett after there has yet to be a conversation between him and new head coach Todd Monken.

“It hasn’t been much so far,” Monken said of his communication with Garrett so far. On Tuesday, the Browns began the season with voluntary workouts, from which Garrett, Denzel Ward and Jerry Jeudy stayed away.

“That’s fine. This week is voluntary. We’re just making it a bigger issue than it is,” he said.

However, he wished his star players had already joined the team. “I wish they were here. They will be ready. We expect them to be ready and we’ll be happy when they’re here,” explained Monken, who took over from Kevin Stefanski in the offseason.

NFL: Myles Garrett likely to forfeit bonus payment

In fact, it’s not uncommon for some players to miss voluntary workouts at the start of the season, but Garrett’s situation is a little more unique.

According to Pro Football Talk, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year has a $1 million bonus payment written into his contract that only kicks in if he participates in 84.375 percent of offseason sessions and all minicamps. He may have already forfeited this bonus due to his previous abstinence.

Garrett, who attended the Cleveland Cavaliers playoff game on Friday and then flew to Los Angeles for the movie premiere of “Michael”, demanded a trade as early as 2025. However, both parties were able to agree on a four-year, 160 million contract extension in March 2025.

With the team’s lack of success, Garrett’s patience could be running out: He has missed the playoffs in seven of his previous nine seasons and the Browns finished last season with a disappointing 5-12 record.
