NFL: Quarterback demands more money – and skips pre-season opener

In order to emphasize his demand for a better contract, the quarterback misses the start of the Cardinals’ offseason program.

The signs are pointing to a strike for Jacoby Brissett. According to the “NFL Network”, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback has skipped the team’s pre-season opener.

The 33-year-old wants to put pressure on the franchise to offer him a new, higher-paying contract.

Brissett is set to receive a base salary of 4.88 million dollars in 2026, of which only 1.5 million dollars is guaranteed.

Compared to his new teammate Gardner Minshew, with whom he is likely competing for the starting quarterback position for the new season, these amounts are very low indeed.

Minshew, who the Cardinals signed in March, is set to receive a guaranteed $5.14 million this year.

Cardinals: No starting guarantee for Jacoby Brissett

At a press conference, general manager Monti Ossenfort had previously avoided committing to a starting quarterback. That may not have gone down well with Brissett either.

Because he certainly recommended himself for the number 1 spot last season. In 14 games, he completed a total of 315 passes for 3366 yards and 23 touchdowns.

As far as his desire for a new contract is concerned, however, there are initial positive signs. According to the NFL Network, the Cardinals are willing to think about it.
