NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers president expects Rodgers decision soon

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been waiting two months for a decision from Aaron Rodgers on his future. Now the owner and team president is speaking out about a possible deadline.

The future of Aaron Rodgers remains uncertain. The ten-time Pro Bowler and four-time MVP has still not decided whether he wants to play another season with the Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the other hand, are impatiently waiting for an answer, after all, a decision would finally provide planning security at the most important position for the coming season.

Now owner and team president Art Rooney II has commented on a possible deadline. He said on Tuesday: “I would say that I expect an answer by the draft.” This year’s draft takes place from April 23 to April 25 in Pittsburgh.

He added that he had not talked to Rodgers yet, but that he was in contact with new head coach Mike McCarthy. “I think there will be a decision soon,” Rooney added in conclusion.

McCarthy explained that he last spoke to the 42-year-old on Monday: “We’re in constant contact. I think we’re on a good path and we’ll just keep working on it.“

When asked if the Steelers could consider drafting a quarterback, general manager Omar Khan replied: ”All options are on the table.” Rodgers had said in an interview in early March that there was no deadline that had been presented to him.

“There’s no contract offer or anything like that yet, so there’s nothing to discuss,” the quarterback said. He added: “I’m a free agent and I’m enjoying my time with my wife at this stage of the offseason.”

There had already been lengthy negotiations between Rodgers and the Steelers last offseason. At the time, the outcome was that the 42-year-old signed for one season in Pittsburgh.
