Latest NFL trade: The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired a new quarterback.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the franchise is acquiring Justin Fields via trade from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick.
According to the report, the deal is still pending a physical. Other teams were reportedly also interested in the 27-year-old, but Fields preferred the Chiefs.
Fields will thus take on the role of backup to star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL.
Gardner Minshew, Mahomes’ backup last season, previously signed with the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent.
The Jets had signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in March 2025, but he failed to meet expectations and was benched in the second half of the season in favor of Tyrod Taylor.
