NFL – Minnesota Vikings: Kyler Murray or J.J. McCarthy as starter? Head coach comments

With the signing of Kyler Murray, the question arises as to who will start as quarterback for the Vikings in the future.

New addition to the Minnesota Vikings. The NFL team from the NFC North has signed veteran quarterback Kyler Murray.

The number one pick from 2019 has signed a one-year contract – a particularly lucrative deal for the Vikings, as a large part of his guaranteed salary will be covered by his former team, the Arizona Cardinals. Minnesota only has to pay $1.3 million. Murray is not the only playmaker on the roster, of course, as previous starter J.J. McCarthy also remains with the team. But who will be the starting quarterback next season? Head coach Kevin O’Connell did not want to answer that question. “Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t think we have to name either of them at this point,” the head coach is quoted by ESPN as saying.

Murray or McCarthy as starter?

This statement can be interpreted as an indication of competition for the position, which should come as no surprise to McCarthy. “He knew we were going to add someone to the roster,” the coach said of his playmaker.

“He knew that this wouldn’t change his attitude and focus on improving and approaching this offseason in the right way.”

Both playmakers have struggled with injuries and are likely to have similar chances of playing in the coming season.
