NFL: Tua Tagovailoa facing the chop? Concerned franchise reportedly interested

Tua Tagovailoa probably has no future with the Miami Dolphins. The New York Jets could give the quarterback a new home.

Tua Tagovailoa recently expressed his openness to a fresh start with another franchise. The Miami Dolphins, for their part, had declared themselves open to trading the quarterback. However, as he has a lucrative contract, it could be difficult to find a trade partner. That’s why it can’t be ruled out that the Dolphins will cut Tua and accept the dead cap of $99 million.

At least in this case, there would probably be an immediate market for the 27-year-old, who has had a disappointing 2025 season and was even benched at times. The New York Jets, in particular, are said to be interested in signing Tagovailoa.

“If he’s released, he could be available for the minimum salary of a veteran quarterback with starter qualities. Financially, that makes a lot of sense,” NFL insider Mike Garafolo said on “Good Morning Football.”

NFL: Tagovailoa was one of the most productive QBs

“Teams are doing their homework on Tua. As far as I know, the Jets, among others, are in talks to get a comprehensive picture of Tua as a person. The Jets have several options at the quarterback position – and Tua is one of them, in my opinion,” Garafolo explained.

Tagovailoa has struggled with injuries, especially concussions, in recent years. However, when he was fit, he was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league. Perhaps he could regain that productivity in a new team and system.

In any case, a fresh start for the quarterback seems increasingly likely – his future may lie with the Jets.
