NFL: Wide receiver Rondale Moore dies at age 25 – initial findings on cause of death

The NFL mourns the loss of wide receiver Rondale Moore. Initial findings indicate that the 25-year-old took his own life.

Tragic news from the NFL: Wide receiver Rondale Moore has died at the age of just 25.

According to the police in his hometown of New Albany, as reported by the AP news agency, Moore was found in his garage with a gunshot wound, believed to be self-inflicted.

The Minnesota Vikings, with whom Moore was most recently under contract, were shocked by the news. “We are deeply saddened by the death of Rondale Moore,” the Vikings said in a statement. “As we work to understand the facts, we have spoken with Rondale’s family to express our condolences and the full support of the Minnesota Vikings.”

Moore entered the NFL in 2021 as a second-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals. After three mixed years, he was traded by the Cardinals to the Atlanta Falcons in March 2024. However, a serious knee injury ended his 2024 season before it even began.

Vikings coach “devastated” by Moore’s death

He signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent in the 2025 offseason, but Moore’s injury woes continued with the Vikings. He suffered a serious knee injury in a preseason game against the Houston Texans and was also forced to sit out the season.

His last head coach, Kevin O’Connell, said he was “devastated” by the death of his protégé. “Although Rondale was only a member of the Vikings for a short time, we got to know and appreciate him well. He was a humble, soft-spoken, and respectful young man who was proud of his roots in Indiana.”

Moore was “disciplined, dedicated, and resilient,” O’Connell said, “even though he struggled with injuries that sidelined him several times throughout his career. We are all heartbroken that he will not be able to continue living his NFL dream and that we will no longer have the chance to see him flourish.”
