NFL – Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes announces timeline for comeback after cruciate ligament rupture

It has been about a month since Patrick Mahomes suffered his serious injury. The Chiefs quarterback remains optimistic that he will be able to take the field on the first day of the upcoming season.

Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has expressed optimism about his recovery following his serious knee injury.

The 30-year-old suffered a torn ACL and damage to the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee in December and underwent surgery shortly thereafter. He is now aiming for a full return at the start of the 2026 NFL season.

Kansas City Chiefs – Mahomes determined: “The goal is Week 1”

Mahomes is undergoing rehabilitation in Kansas City. The schedule calls for a recovery period of about nine months, which could allow him to participate in OTAs and training camp.

“I want to be ready for Week 1,” Mahomes said. “The doctors have said I could, but I can’t predict what will happen during the process. The goal is to play in Week 1 and have no restrictions. You want to be healthy out there and give us the best chance to win. I hope I can do a few things at OTAs and training camp.”

The star quarterback emphasized the importance of a trusting team during the rehabilitation phase: “What I’ve learned in this process is that not every day is going to be great. You need someone you trust who will bring out the best in you, but also keep you safe.”

He continued: “I know myself, I’m going to push it to the limit every day. There are places you can’t go yet. You want to, but you can’t. And the doctors and trainers do that for good reason.”

Kansas City Chiefs experience disappointing season

The Chiefs are facing challenges: After a disappointing season in which they missed the playoffs and lost their nine-year dominance in the AFC West, changes could be on the horizon.

Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is applying for head coach positions, but Mahomes has no reason to worry: “I just want someone who loves football, cares about football, gives everything to win, and brings new ideas every day. That’s what you have to do if you want to be great in this league.”

The Chiefs finished the season with only six wins and eleven losses.
