The decline of football star Russell Wilson continues. This weekend, Jameis Winston will play quarterback for the New York Giants in the US professional league NFL, as number one Jaxson Dart is still struggling with the effects of a concussion. Wilson, who led the Seattle Seahawks to Super Bowl victory in 2014, is now only third choice.
Mike Kafka, who took over as head coach of the Giants at the beginning of the week following the dismissal of Brian Daboll, announced Winston’s promotion on Wednesday. Dart (22) had replaced Wilson (36) as starting quarterback at the end of September.
In the last game, rookie Dart was unable to continue in the fourth quarter of the game against the Chicago Bears with the score at 17-10 after a heavy hit. Wilson took over, and the Giants lost 20-24. Now Winston, the number one pick in the 2015 draft, has the chance to prove himself.
NY Giants: Big vote of confidence for Winston
“He’s going to do a great job. I have a lot of confidence in Jameis,” Kafka said of interim quarterback Winston. The 31-year-old is playing his first game since Week 15 of last season, when he was with the Cleveland Browns. He was scheduled to be the third quarterback behind Wilson and Dart this season, but now he will get his chance to prove himself with the Giants. The New York Giants face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday (7 p.m. CET). New York has only two wins in ten games and ranks 15th in the NFC.
