Next attempt for Kilian Zierer: After his quick exit from the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, the German professional football player has already found a new team in the NFL. The 25-year-old from Munich is joining the Jacksonville Jaguars with immediate effect, as the franchise announced on Wednesday.
This is already the offensive tackle’s fourth stop in the league in the current calendar year – but he has not yet made it beyond the practice squad. He was only under contract with the 49ers for about a month and a half, and prior to that, his brief stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns had not been enough to earn him a spot on the game roster.
It is by no means certain that things will go better this time for Zierer, who is a member of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program and can therefore take up an additional spot on a team’s training squad. “Unfortunately, nothing is ever certain in the NFL,” Zierer said in September in an interview with Sport1: “You only have one-year contracts that can be terminated at any time.”
