Giants: Opportunity for rookie Dart – Wilson to be benched

Opportunity for Jaxson Dart: Coach Brian Daboll of the NFL’s New York Giants is counting on the 22-year-old rookie in Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Veteran Russell Wilson will be benched as a result.

“All I can tell you is that we’re going to play Jaxson and prepare for the game,” Daboll told reporters on Wednesday: “It’s my decision, and we’re going to play Jaxson.” He said he expects Dart to be the starting quarterback going forward, with Wilson serving as his backup.

Wilson, 36, who won the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in 2014, took the decision in stride in his initial reaction. “I’m focused on helping this team win,” he said. “I’m focused on helping Jaxson. I love this organization, I love the whole process. I love the guys in the locker room.“ He said he is not giving up on the season. The Giants have lost all three games they have played so far. That is now set to change with Dart. ”I’m ready,” he said.
