NFL: Derek Carr does not rule out comeback after retirement

Derek Carr is actually retired from the NFL. However, the former quarterback is now not ruling out a return.

Quarterback Derek Carr ended his NFL career during the last NFL offseason. However, the 34-year-old is not ruling out a return to the world’s best football league.

Carr decided to retire rather than undergo surgery on his right shoulder, which would have sidelined him for the entire 2025 season. He is currently working on launching a career as a commentator.

The long-time signal caller was a guest on the “Dan Patrick Show” and explained that he feels great because he is no longer being hit by opponents. However, he said it feels “really strange” not to be playing in the NFL anymore, now that the new season has started again.

Carr does not rule out NFL comeback

Patrick then asked if Carr was tempted to return to the league. The former Raiders pro replied that his brother David, in particular, had been trying to convince him to make a comeback. So far, this has not paid off. However, Carr admitted that there could be a scenario in which he decides to play again.

“I would never say never. Because I’ve learned that when I say something will never happen, that’s usually exactly what happens,” said the athlete.

“I think we’ve all learned that. For me, right now, I’m training because I love to train. That will remain the case for the rest of my life. I love to train.“

He continued: ”I throw a football around with my kids and my buddy in front of the house from time to time for fun, because it’s still part of my shoulder rehab.“

According to Carr, he is still busy getting ”back in shape. That’s why I’m still doing these things.” The athlete wants to “be ready when God wants me to do it. I don’t want to go out there and not be ready. So I’ll be ready, but I’m not coming back. As of today, I’m not coming back.”
