Next trade in the NFL: The Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans are swapping two offensive players. There is also a curious pick swap for the 2026 NFL Draft.
A few weeks before the start of the regular season in the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans have arranged a trade – the offensive line-ups of both teams will be affected by the change.
The Eagles will receive wide receiver John Metchie from the Texans, while tight end Harrison Bryant will go in the opposite direction and play for Houston instead of Philadelphia in the future. The deal also includes a somewhat curious pick swap.
This is because both franchises will receive back the exact draft picks for 2026 that were traded at the beginning of the offseason as part of the trade for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
This means that the Texans, who had given up their fifth-round pick in 2026 for Gardner-Johnson, will now get it back. The same applies to the Eagles’ sixth-round pick, which is now finding its way back to Philadelphia.
Trade for depth with the Eagles and Texans
Both Metchie and Bryant are primarily depth additions. The Texans have numerous wide receivers under contract, but could use some additional experience at tight end behind Dalton Schultz.
It was exactly the opposite for the Eagles. A crowded tight end room is being trimmed down, while the receiver group is getting an additional option who didn’t make the final cut in Houston.
Metchie was drafted by the Texans in the second round in 2022, but shortly afterwards received the devastating diagnosis of blood cancer. The receiver missed his entire rookie season, but defeated the disease and made his NFL debut in Week 2 of the 2023 season.
Last year, Metchie played in 13 regular season games, catching 24 passes for 257 yards and one touchdown. He also saw action in the playoffs, gaining another 63 yards.
Bryant has been in the NFL since 2020 and spent his entire rookie season with the Cleveland Browns. After his contract in Ohio ended, he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, but he was hardly a factor in 2024, contributing only 86 yards. He signed with the Eagles last March.
