NFL – Philadelphia Eagles: Saquon Barkley rejects invitation from Donald Trump

Eagles star Saquon Barkley rejects an invitation from US President Donald Trump and says he is “shocked.”

Saquon Barkley has declined an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join his Council for Sport, Fitness, and Nutrition. After Philadelphia Eagles practice, the NFL star said he was “shocked” when his name was mentioned in this context.

“A few months ago, my team was made aware of the council. So I’m not really familiar with it,” the 28-year-old explained.

“I felt like I was going to be very busy, so my family and I thought it would probably be best not to accept the offer.”

He added: “I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned. I assume it’s something great, so I appreciate it, but I was still a little shocked when my name was mentioned.”

Trump appointed Barkley as a member

On July 31, Trump signed an executive order establishing the council. Its mission is to advise the president and recommend measures in a range of areas. These include, for example, school programs to promote excellence in physical education and fitness goals for American youth with the aim of creating a new generation of healthy and active citizens.

According to the executive order, the council will have up to 30 members. During a press conference, Trump appointed Barkley as a member, along with NFL players Nick Bosa, Tua Tagovailoa, and Harrison Butker, golfer Bryson DeChambeau, and NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, among others.
