In the traditional kickoff to the 2025 NFL preseason, the Los Angeles Chargers gave the Detroit Lions no chance in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, winning 34-7.

In a game marked by an emotional atmosphere – a moment of silence before kickoff commemorated the victims of an attack on NFL headquarters – the Chargers dominated from the start.

Trey Lance put in a strong performance and led his team confidently. He threw for 120 yards (10/14 passes) and two touchdowns, including a precise 15-yard pass to rookie wide receiver Brenden Rice in the second quarter.

The Chargers were also dominant on the ground, with running back Isaiah Spiller rushing for 68 yards and a touchdown on twelve carries. Overall, Los Angeles racked up 342 offensive yards (202 passing yards, 140 rushing yards) and consistently capitalized on the Lions’ mistakes. A fumble by the Lions special teams in the first half led to a field goal that extended the Chargers’ lead to 10-0.

Lions backup quarterback Jake Allen, who played the first half, finished with 82 yards (8/15 passes) but showed little impact. Hendon Hooker took over in the third quarter and scored Detroit’s lone touchdown on a 7-yard run in the fourth quarter (45 passing yards, 22 rushing yards).

However, the Lions offense managed only 198 yards (112 passing yards, 86 rushing yards) and struggled with two turnovers (a fumble and an interception).

The Chargers will kick off the preseason against the New Orleans Saints, while the Lions will play the Atlanta Falcons.
