Jon Gruden’s departure from the NFL was not a pretty one. The 61-year-old is hoping for a comeback as a coach.
Jon Gruden has not been active as a coach since 2021. At that time, he resigned as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after the New York Times leaked old emails in an explosive report that heavily incriminated Gruden. He used racist language and made transphobic and homophobic remarks.
Now Gruden has made it clear that he is hoping for another chance.
“Hopefully, it’s not over,” Gruden said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I’m working on a comeback. I’m working hard to maybe get another chance. Maybe one of the guys who used to work for me will hire me. I’m definitely looking for a job.”
Gruden is back in the NFL environment and working as a consultant for individual teams, but one thing is clear: he wants to return to the sidelines.
“Honestly, I’d even coach at Jones Junior High,” he joked. “I’ll definitely coach again. I never really stopped – I just don’t belong to an official team at the moment. But I’m working on private projects in the background and wear team gear when I watch games, so no one knows who I’m actually rooting for.”
Gruden’s NFL record stands at 117 wins and 112 losses in the regular season, plus 5-4 in the playoffs. His greatest success was winning the Super Bowl in 2002 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
