NFL – Equanimeous St. Brown joins the San Francisco 49ers: What are his chances?

Equanimeous St. Brown signs with the San Francisco 49ers in a surprise move. What are the chances for the German-American wide receiver?

It was quite a surprise announcement. After a tryout with the San Francisco 49ers, Equanimeous St. Brown was signed by the California franchise for one year.

It’s a fresh start for the German-American wide receiver, who was on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad last season and only played two games for the team.

EQ is back in the NFL. However, it remains to be seen whether he will make the final roster for the regular season after the preseason.

When the San Francisco 49ers’ management looks at the current situation of their receiving corps, they find a situation that is not necessarily comfortable. A situation that quickly makes it clear why the signing of additional receivers became necessary.

Top three 49ers receivers after Deebo Samuel’s departure

Following Deebo Samuel’s departure to the Washington Commanders, the situation and ranking of pass receivers at the 49ers is actually clear. Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings form the top receiver trio. Other players line up behind them.

However, the top three are struggling with different problems.

At the start of training camp, two players, Aiyuk and Pearsall, are on the PUP list. Aiyuk suffered a torn cruciate ligament last season and is unlikely to be available for the start of the regular season.

49ers in contract dispute with Jennings

Pearsall, meanwhile, is struggling with thigh problems. Although he is looking much better, head coach Kyle Shanahan does not want to rush him back, especially as the team first needs to check his fitness.

The situation is completely different for the third top receiver in the group, Jennings. He is in his fifth year and also in a contract dispute. According to US media reports, he either wants a new contract or a trade to another team.

General manager John Lynch recently stated that Jennings has not formally requested a trade and is at training camp. “You know what we think of J.J. He embodies what it means to be a Niner. We’re not going to get into contract talks and all that. That will take care of itself, but we love him and he’s here,” the GM emphasized.

Robinson faces punishment

And yet: None of the three are in a relaxed or problem-free situation at the moment – and things aren’t getting any better behind the scenes. The number four receiver in the squad, Demarcus Robinson, is also a question mark.

Although the experienced receiver was only signed in the offseason, he faces a suspension for several games due to a drunk driving charge.
