Odell Beckham Jr. reveals: “I never wanted to leave the New York Giants.”

Odell Beckham Jr.’s move from the New York Giants to the Cleveland Browns was the trade of the year in March 2019. In a TV interview, he looks back on that time.

Odell Beckham Jr. was perhaps the best wide receiver in the NFL when he was still playing for the New York Giants. However, after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2019, he was unable to build on his top performances.

Although he won the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in February 2022, he was no longer a key player there. It was a similar story in 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens. He spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, but caught only nine passes for a total of 55 yards in nine appearances.

During the CBS broadcast of the UEFA Champions League final, the 32-year-old looked back on his career so far.

“I never, ever wanted to leave the New York Giants,” he said. “The reason you heard me talk about the situation at the time was because I was really angry – because where I come from, in college, if we lost one game, our season was over.”

When Beckham was traded to Cleveland, he spoke publicly about his dissatisfaction with the Giants and said he had been “unhappy” there. Were these statements merely due to frustration over the trade at the time?

The pass receiver still feels connected to the Giants: “That was the organization I was drafted to. They believed in me. So if the Giants ever won a Super Bowl, I’d be happy. But deep down, I wanted to be the one to do it. That’s for sure. I then went to the LA Rams and won a Super Bowl there.”
