Shedeur Sanders was the victim of a nasty prank call during the NFL Draft. This has consequences for the Atlanta Falcons and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.
The prank call against Shedeur Sanders at the 2025 NFL Draft has consequences.
The league announced that the Atlanta Falcons have been fined $250,000, while defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich must pay $100,000.
The penalty was imposed because the Falcons and Ulbrich failed to adequately protect confidential information. The prank was carried out by Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of the Falcons’ DC.
While visiting his parents, he came across Sanders’ phone number on an iPad and wrote it down so he could prank call the quarterback later.
This is what happened shortly after the start of the second round of the draft in Green Bay. Sanders had not yet been selected at that point, and the 23-year-old’s free fall was the dominant topic of conversation surrounding the talent draft.
Shortly before the New Orleans Saints announced their second-round pick, Sanders’ phone rang and the caller identified himself as Mickey Loomis, general manager of the Saints.
Sanders prank: Caller pretended to be Saints GM
“This is Mickey Loomis from the Saints. It’s been a long wait. We’re going to take you with our next pick,” said the caller. The phone call was recorded on video by “Well Off Media,” a YouTube channel run by Deion Sanders Jr., Shedeur’s older brother.
“Yes, sir, let’s be legendary,” Sanders replied before the caller revealed his nasty prank. ‘But you’ll have to wait a little longer. I’m sorry,’ he said and hung up.
The Saints did end up selecting a quarterback, but it was Tyler Shough.
Jax Ulbrich apologized for his behavior in an Instagram post shortly afterward. “On Friday night, I made a huge mistake. Sheduer [sic], what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful,” Ulbrich wrote. “I’m so sorry I took your moment away from you. It was selfish and childish.”
Sanders ultimately had to wait until the fifth round before the Cleveland Browns drafted him.
