NFL – Cincinnati Bengals: Trey Hendrickson angry at franchise management

Tensions are running high between the Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson. The defensive end was annoyed by comments made by Vice President Katie Blackburn.

Have Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals had a falling out?

The fact is: the defensive end reacted angrily to statements made by Vice President Katie Blackburn. At the NFL’s owners’ meeting, she said that Hendrickson should “be satisfied with certain offers,” even if he might see it differently.

“Part of it is up to him: at some point, he has to be willing to be satisfied. If he’s not, then sometimes that’s what holds up negotiations. In the end, he has to agree – and we have the utmost respect for him,” she said.

In other words, Hendrickson, who had asked for a trade but would also sign a new contract with the Bengals, has an offer. But it’s apparently not enough for him. His current contract expires after the upcoming season.

Bengals: Hendrickson hoped for an April Fools’ joke

On the “Pat McAfee Show” he revealed that he had hoped for an April Fools’ joke after he had already been traded to all 31 teams on April 1 and had a hundred different alleged contracts on the table.

“The only thing I was hoping was a joke was these statements,” said Hendrickson, who checked with his agent Harold Lewis: ”Unfortunately, it wasn’t a joke. And that was pretty disappointing because the communication in the last few months was really bad.”

His teammates Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have, as is well known, signed new, lucrative contracts. Chase is currently the highest-paid non-quarterback, earning $40.25 million per year.

Hendrickson, who has recorded 17.5 sacks in the past two years, is “only” ranked tenth among edge rushers, earning $21 million per year. The top earner here is Myles Garrett at $40 million.

“The market for this position is increasing – just like it did last year for wide receivers,” Hendrickson emphasizes. “We’re willing to talk about it. But as the market continues to rise, I won’t apologize for it.” He would rather be a Bengal forever.
