NFL: Baltimore Ravens release Diontae Johnson from training

The Baltimore Ravens are making a statement about their wide receiver Diontae Johnson. They are excusing him from training sessions until further notice.

Diontae Johnson’s NFL future is uncertain.

After five disappointing years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and not even a season with the Carolina Panthers, “DJ” doesn’t seem to be getting off to a good start with the Baltimore Ravens either.

The wide receiver was recently suspended by his own team for one game because he refused to be substituted in against the Philadelphia Eagles even though teammate Rashod Bateman was injured.

Now the next turn.

Head coach John Harbaugh would not reveal why he was not released, but was only allowed to miss training in the week before the important game against division rivals from Pittsburgh.

“My thoughts are only about the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and how I prepare my team for it. He won’t be there this week and next week will tell. I know you want a story. There are things that the front office has to decide and there are reasons why it falls within their area (…). My focus is on Pittsburgh.”

In four games for Baltimore, Johnson has appeared in 39 total snaps. His meager stats: one catch for six yards. And a whole lot of trouble.
