New York Giants face another quarterback crisis with Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock

After Daniel Jones was demoted as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants, there is apparently tension in the new tandem, Drew Lock and starter Tommy DeVito.

Normally there is not much talk or writing about NFL teams during the bye week.

However, the New York Giants were the number one topic of conversation, even though they didn’t play. Quarterback Daniel Jones was demoted and is now only the third man in the Giants’ hierarchy.

Not only did star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence express irritation about the decision, but after the first practice of the week on Wednesday, the two most sought-after quarterbacks, Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock, spoke.

Especially Lock, who was skipped by DeVito on the depth chart, made people sit up and take notice. To his surprise and to the surprise of many fans and experts. “That’s a question I’m asking myself,” said Lock. “Actually, I was told that I was number two.”

Tellingly, “I can’t say any more than that,” Lock added. Possibly because otherwise he would face a contractual penalty.

DeVito: “Wouldn’t say I was surprised”

However, one person was apparently not surprised by DeVito’s appointment as a starter: DeVito himself. “I wouldn’t say I was surprised. You always have to be ready, you never know what’s going to happen.”

For the 26-year-old, who achieved cult status last year, only football should count this year, though. ”That has to be my focus now. Not that it wasn’t last year, but the games and the fun are taking a back seat for now.”

How much fun he and the fans will have will be evident on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. DeVito’s first start of the season.
