NFL – Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa does not want to be a “poster child for concussions”

Before the Monday Night Game between the Rams and Dolphins, Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and his health will be analyzed in detail on US TV.

With a 23-15 win over the Los Angeles Rams, the Miami Dolphins have kept their playoff hopes alive in the NFL. Prior to the game, in the “ESPN” program “Monday Night Countdown”, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was discussed in detail.

Among other things, the content included the playmaker’s repeated concussions and his future.

The signal caller himself also had his say. Regarding the game against the Buffalo Bills in September, when he suffered his most recent concussion, he said: “In the end, I made a decision that obviously everyone who supports me and everyone who doesn’t support me says, ‘Boy, what are you doing?’”

The question of his future is also important in this context. “If they had told me I couldn’t play, I would have definitely considered it, but there were no such talks. It never crossed my mind that I was thinking of retiring,” Tagovailoa continued.

For the 26-year-old, one thing is particularly important with regard to his legacy: “I don’t want to be known as the poster boy for concussions.”

Brees worries about Tagovailoa

Meanwhile, former quarterback Drew Brees, who was a guest analyst on the show, also had his say. “He’s not the guy with the most weapons. And that’s not a criticism. It shows me that he had to adapt to survive,” said the longtime Saints playmaker.

“He has to play with confidence and anticipation, see the field very well, be a master of coverage and spatial awareness and know where his people are.”

So Brees is especially worried when Tagovailoa is moving around the field. Former Commanders safety Ryan Clark, who is part of the show’s team of experts, also commented on the Dolphins quarterback’s running ability.

“For Tua, it’s also about his life”

“Whether you’re Drew Brees, who gets the ball out quickly, or Matthew Stafford, who never runs, there will always be plays where you have to make split-second decisions that could determine whether you win or lose.”

And further: “For Tua Tagovailoa, it’s also about his life and career. He made those decisions in the first two games. We’ll see how he continues.”
