NFL – New York Jets @ Pittsburgh Steelers: Russell Wilson shines, Davante Adams disappoints

Russell Wilson puts in a strong performance in his first start for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Quite the opposite of Aaron Rodgers, who disappoints once again – even with buddy Davante Adams.

In his first NFL start for the Pittsburgh Steelers, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson excelled. The 35-year-old led the Steelers to a surprisingly clear 37-15 home win over the New York Jets in the Sunday Night Game of Week 7.

Wilson, who took over the starting quarterback job from Justin Fields during the week, completed 16 of his 29 attempts for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran into the end zone once himself.

One of the big beneficiaries of the quarterback switch was wide receiver George Pickens, who caught five balls for 111 yards and recorded his first touchdown of the season. Pickens quickly emerged as Wilson’s favorite target. Running back Najee Harris also had a big game, rushing for 102 yards and scoring a touchdown.

On the other hand, the Jets’ old magic of the Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams duo was not yet in evidence. In his first game for the Jets after being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders, Adams was targeted nine times, only Hall and Wilson were targeted more. However, only three balls were completed, with which Adams gained 30 yards.

Once again, costly mistakes made life difficult for the Jets. Rodgers threw two interceptions, including one just before halftime with the score at 15-6, which the Steelers converted into a touchdown on their final drive of the first half. Instead of extending their lead and deciding the game, the Jets brought their opponent back into the game.

It was the beginning of the end for the Jets, who did not score a single point in the second half. Also because kicker Greg Zuerlein was unable to convert another field goal later on.

Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman caused a shock moment. After what appeared to be a normal hit, he collapsed and was taken to the hospital with a neck injury. However, he is said to have felt sensation in his extremities.

The Jets suffered their fourth straight loss in Pittsburgh and fell to a 2-5 record. For the Steelers, on the other hand, the world looks quite different. The team from Pennsylvania is 5-2 and at least until the Baltimore Ravens’ Monday Night Game appearance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they are at the top of the AFC North.

The Steelers will play their next New York team next Monday (local time) when they host the New York Giants. The Jets, on the other hand, have to play the New England Patriots on Sunday.
