One of the most sensational NFL debuts of the season could be getting closer. The San Francisco 49ers will open the 21-day window for Ricky Pearsall on Monday, as head coach Kyle Shanahan announced according to “ESPN”.

The wide receiver was drafted at 31st position, which fueled rumors of a departure of Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk. Since both continue to play for the Californians, Pearsall would have had to take a back seat anyway, but the personnel issue became really explosive on August 31, four months after his arrival.

On that day, the 24-year-old was shot in the chest by a 17-year-old attacker during a scuffle in the course of a robbery. Pearsall was lucky: the bullet exited his back without injuring any vital organs.

Three days after the incident, the 49ers put the first rounder on the non-football injury list. He was to be given all the time he needed to recover. So now he is granted 21 days to recommend himself for an appeal to the active squad.

“I would be most inclined to think that he needs a longer ramp-up time, but I think that he is in good health to play,” Shanahan emphasized. However, he did not want to make a decision ‘until we can watch him in training, but we won’t rush anything. If he’s ready, he’s ready, and if not, we still have a few weeks.’

McCaffrey’s comeback: 49ers star must be patient

For Christian McCaffrey, however, the time for the 21-day window has not yet come. The star running back, who had his Achilles tendon problems treated in Germany, among other places, still has to be patient. “He’s making progress, but we’re not going to open it yet,” Shanahan said of the sorely missed 28-year-old.

Thus, “CMC” could make his season debut on October 27 at the earliest in the Week 8 game against the Dallas Cowboys. After that, there is the bye week.
