New York Jets: Fired head coach Robert Saleh was not allowed to say goodbye to the team

According to media reports, the dismissal of head coach Robert Saleh of the New York Jets was very undignified.

The dismissal apparently came as a surprise: head coach Robert Saleh appeared at the New York Jets training ground on Tuesday and prepared for a normal training day. There, however, the coach learned that he had been released.

When head coaches are fired, they usually want to address the team one more time. However, that did not happen with Saleh. According to consistent media reports, the coach was escorted from the facility by security and was no longer allowed to speak to his players.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk initially reported that Saleh was escorted off the premises by the Jets’ head of security. This report was then confirmed by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

“From what I understand, Robert Saleh was fired this morning and then escorted off the premises by security. There was no meeting with the players to let them know or anything like that. He was in the building on business, and then he was out of the building and out of a job,” Schultz said.

Jets owner Johnson explained the dismissal

Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly announced the firing of the coach and wrote: “This morning, I informed Robert Saleh that he will no longer serve as the Jets’ head coach. I thanked him for his hard work over the last three and a half years and wished him and his family the best in the future. This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be in terms of our expectations and I believe now is the best time for us to go in a different direction.”
