The “Chiefs referees” from Kansas City were successful again.

The Kansas City Chiefs are already being mocked on the internet because they have also been lucky with the decisions of the referees more often in the current NFL season.

In week two, a game-winning holding was overlooked in the narrow 26-25 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. In week three against the Atlanta Falcons, there was another at least controversial scene in the Chiefs’ favor.

In the 22-17 win, a potential touchdown by Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts was thwarted when Chiefs safety Bryan Cook made a full-body tackle on him head-on and without looking at the ball. The ball was still in the air. The referees did not penalize this play as pass interference.

NFL referees: “We’re doing our best”

It was a game-changing moment. There was 4:30 left to play in the fourth quarter. It was a third down, a few yards from the end zone. For many, the Cook action was clearly punishable.

But there was no PI called. Referee Tra Blake explained the decision after the game by saying that the assistant referee in charge of the play could not see any foul: “We have to make the call in real time. From the angles that my colleagues had, it was decided that no foul took place. We did our best to make a call.”

Pass interference situations cannot be reviewed; the referees have to decide immediately whether it is PI or not.

The Chiefs are now 3-0 on the season. Falcons coach Raheem Morris refrained from criticizing the referees after the game for fear of possible consequences from the league: “I like my money”.
