The Washington Commanders pulled off an upset win at the Cincinnati Bengals. Thanks to an outstanding Jayden Daniels, Washington won 38-33 in Cincinnati.

It took until week three before the NFL witnessed the first top performance by a rookie quarterback.

With an absolutely top performance from quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Washington Commanders surprisingly and deservedly won 38-33 at the Cincinnati Bengals. Daniels excelled with 21 of 23 passes completed for 254 yards, adding two touchdowns. 91 percent of passes completed is a new NFL record for a rookie.

With the Bengals about to snap back into possession, the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft threw a perfect 28-yard touchdown pass to receiver Terry McLaurin in the corner of the end zone to end the game.

The passer rating of 141.7 is one of the highest of any rookie quarterback who played every snap in the offense. He also added 40 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson also scored a touchdown each, with offensive lineman Trent Scott scoring on a trick play.

For the Bengals, who traditionally have a slow start, the bad start is now a fact. Only two percent of all teams that started 0-3 have ever reached the playoffs. The Bengals are one of three teams still winless.

Burrow does what he can – but is let down by his defense

Quarterback Joe Burrow and his offense are not to blame for this defeat. The first overall pick of 2020 impressed with 324 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also completed nine of his 12 passes, and a rating of 127.5 is also outstanding.

Ja’Marr Chase was the top receiver with 118 yards and two touchdowns, while Andrei Iosivas contributed 52 yards and a touchdown. Tee Higgins was unremarkable with just three catches for 39 yards.

On the ground, the duo of Chase Brown and Zack Moss also put together a solid performance with 120 rushing yards, with the latter being responsible for the last touchdown of the game.

The reason for the loss is the Bengals’ defense. Daniels was sacked just twice for six yards of lost yardage, and overall the Bengals only forced three plays for negative yards. None of the defensive backs can celebrate an interception.

The Bengals, who are in dire straits, face the resurgent Carolina Panthers in week four. The Commanders, who are right on target with two wins from three games, travel to the Arizona Cardinals.
