NFL: Ravens lineman Ronnie Stanley attacks referees after loss to Chiefs

The Baltimore Ravens lose the NFL opener 20:27 against the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, their lineman Ronnie Stanley unloads a lot of frustration, especially towards the referees

Ronnie Stanley had a lot of anger in his stomach after his Baltimore Ravens’ 20:27 loss to the reigning NFL champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. The offensive tackle railed that he had the feeling that the referees wanted to “make an example” of him.

The reason for the lineman’s claim: the 30-year-old felt that the referees were extremely petty when it came to so-called “illegal formations”. Especially against his team.

Stanley was personally penalized three times during the game for not lining up correctly on the field. In total, the Ravens accumulated seven penalties for 64 yards of lost space, compared to six penalties for 45 yards for the Chiefs.

Of the seven penalties for Baltimore, five were whistled for an “Illegal Formation”, KC was not penalized at all.

Talking to ESPN after the game, Stanley said: “I felt like the refs were trying to make an example out of me the whole game. The way I saw it, they didn’t apply the same standards to both teams. “

Furthermore, the sixth pick of the 2016 draft explained: “We will now watch the video recordings at home, make sure of the wrong decisions and then send them to the league office.”

Because Stanley is certain that, on closer inspection of the scenes, the Chiefs should also have received several penalties for “illegal formations”.

“When I look at their tackles, especially on the right side, there should have been some whistles. I get a bit of a feeling that I’m crazy, that I don’t know where to line up,” the lineman went on to explain.

Even if nothing can be done to change the outcome of the game, the 30-year-old still hopes that the referees concerned will “have to answer for their whistles”.

The Ravens can make the headlines again next week, however, when Baltimore hosts the Las Vegas Raiders.
