Jacoby Jones has passed away unexpectedly.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Jacoby Jones, a beloved former Ravens football player from New Orleans and proud graduate of a historically black college, has passed away at the age of 40,” reads the statement released by the NFLPA.

The exact circumstances of his death are not yet known.

The family said in a statement that Jones passed away peacefully at his home in New Orleans.

“We want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts and support you have shown us during this difficult time,” the family wrote. “Your continued support and respect for our privacy means so much to us.”

Jacoby Jones won Super Bowl 2013 with Baltimore Ravens

In the NFL, the wide receiver played for the Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Houston Texans.

Jones became particularly famous in the 2013 Super Bowl, when he thrilled the football world with a 109-yard kickoff return that helped his Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers.
