Health concerns for Detroit Lions icon Barry Sanders! He recently had to undergo treatment on his heart
Hall of Famer Barry Sanders announced Friday on “x” (formerly Twitter) that he recently had to undergo a procedure on his heart during the weekend surrounding Father’s Day.
“It was unexpected and reminded us how important it is to take care of our physical well-being, even when we are well,” the 55-year-old wrote in his statement, “I am grateful to the great doctors, nurses and other health care professionals for getting me the care I needed.”
The Lions responded to Sanders’ tweet with a post on social media (“Get well soon, Barry”).
As a running back, Sanders once played for the Detroit Lions from 1989 to 1998 and became one of the best players at his position in NFL history. The ten-time Pro Bowler retired from the NFL in 1999 at the age of 31.
He finished his career with 15,269 rushing yards, which is still the fourth-best record in NFL history. Sanders was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004.
