The Detroit Lions have been fined by the NFL. The reason: There was too much physical contact on the field during a session last week, now a practice is canceled

In the NFL offseason, teams usually take things a little easier.

To minimize the risk of injury, hard tackles and the like are therefore prohibited at OTAs. This is the result of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, an agreement between the players’ union NFLPA and the league itself.

The Detroit Lions have now violated this rule in the past week.

As a result, the NFL has canceled an OTA session next Monday for head coach Dan Campbell’s team.

“On Friday night, the organization was made aware by the NFL and NFLPA that the Organized Team Activities (OTA) workouts held during the week of May 27 violated player work rules regarding physical contact on the field under the Collective Bargaining Agreement,” reads the first part of the statement issued by the franchise on Friday night.

And continued, “As a result, the team’s OTA practice scheduled for Monday, June 10, has been canceled. We take the rules set forth in the NFL’s offseason program very seriously and have been working to conduct our workouts accordingly. We will continue to be vigilant in our future workouts.”

The first preseason game for the Lions is on August 10 against the New York Giants, and the regular season kicks off on September 9 against the Los Angeles Rams.
