NFL: Lions quarterback Jared Goff signs record contract

Jared Goff signs a new contract with the Detroit Lions – and what a contract! The quarterback is entering new dimensions

Jared Goff is now the highest-paid player in the history of the Detroit Lions.

According to several media reports, the quarterback has signed a four-year contract worth a total of 212 million dollars. Goff will receive 170 million dollars guaranteed.

With an average annual salary of 53 million dollars, the 29-year-old also becomes the second most expensive playmaker in the NFL. Only Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals (55 million dollars) earns more on average per year.

Goff has been playing in Detroit since 2021 after moving to Michigan as part of a trade from the Los Angeles Rams. Last season, he led the Lions to the NFC Championship Game, where Detroit narrowly lost to the San Francisco 49ers.

Picked first overall in the 2016 draft by the Rams, Goff was the first player selected by the franchise upon their return to Los Angeles. He reached the Super Bowl with the team after a strong 2018 season, but Goff and Co. were defeated by the New England Patriots.

After a weaker 2020 season, Goff was sent to Detroit by the Rams in exchange for Matthew Stafford and several draft picks. In January, Goff returned the favor by winning the first round of the playoffs against Los Angeles.
