NFL: Mayor wants second team in Dallas – “Football is king here”

Dallas vs Dallas in the Super Bowl? If the mayor of the Texas city has his way, this could soon be possible. After all, the politician is advocating for a second NFL team in Dallas.

Munich – The mayor of Dallas is pleading for a second NFL franchise in the Texas city. Eric Johnson made the announcement on Twitter.

The tweet was in response to a question from “CBS”. Reporters wanted to know which city would be considered should the NFL announce another team.

New York, Los Angeles and now Dallas?

“The answer is Dallas. Why? We are in the process of becoming the third largest metropolitan area in the U.S., which would make us the largest U.S. metropolitan area without a second NFL team,” Johnson wrote.

At the moment, Dallas only has the Cowboys. Other metropolitan areas like New York (Giants and Jets) and Los Angeles (Rams and Chargers) already have two franchises headquartered in the same city.

Johnson: “Football is king in Dallas “

“Football is king here. Dallas needs an expansion team and we would handle a second NFL team better than New York and Los Angeles as well,” Johnson continued.

However, the Cowboys, as the most valuable franchise, have economic and also political supremacy – mainly because of owner Jerry Jones. This could also be a major stumbling block for Johnson’s plan.

Jones probably doesn’t want any competition for his Cowboys in the city of 1.3 million inhabitants. At least the Cowboys would not have to share the AT&T Stadium with the new team. Johnson envisions a venue of his own on the city’s south side.

Dallas vs Dallas in Super Bowl?

“From what I’ve gathered, Jones could be the main reason this venture doesn’t work out. Well, let’s not put words in Mr. Jones’ mouth, first of all. And secondly, I am still responsible for the residents of Dallas,” the mayor stressed.

So the Democrat is still sticking to his guns, tweeting, “Who wouldn’t want to see Dallas vs. Dallas in the Super Bowl…? in the city of Dallas? “
