For the second year in a row, Mike McCarthy is fined by the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys head coach was found by the league to have allowed his players to play too physically during practice.
Munich – Mike McCarthy is fined nearly 100,000 euros by the NFL, according to Calvin Watkins of the “Dallas Morning Post”.
Dallas Cowboys lose practice day
In addition, the Dallas Cowboys will lose a day of practice from the “OTAs” in 2023. The reason given by the league was that the Cowboys’ head coach allowed them to play too physically in practice. McCarthy apparently did not learn from his mistakes, because he was already punished last season for the same offence.
In 2021, the 58-year-old already had to pay over 45,000 euros, while the Cowboys were asked to pay 95,000 euros. In addition to the Texans, the San Francisco 49ers and the Jacksonville Jaguars were also fined at the time for training sessions that were too hard.
McCarthy was made aware last season that some of his plays in practice were problematic. Afterwards, he expressed understanding, but also indicated that he and his players are concerned with doing everything the right way: “Our players are trying to do it the right way. If you get punished for doing too much right instead of doing too little right, that’s a healthy experience to learn from. “
Now there was another learning experience for the head coach from the NFL. McCarthy is entering his third year with the Cowboys.
