Months after Jon Gruden’s sacking, the topic continues to make waves. Commentator legend Brent Musburger criticises the NFL, calling the release of the scandal emails a “paid contract killing”.

Munich – As Jon Gruden’s lawsuit against the NFL continues, the former head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders is getting more and more backing.

The 58-year-old lost his job at the beginning of October because old emails of his were published in the course of the investigation against the Washington football team in which he made racist comments, among other things.

After persistent criticism, Gruden finally agreed with the Raiders to terminate his contract.

However, Gruden has already received verbal support, especially from Las Vegas. After Raiders owner Mark Davis had already suspected a conspiracy against his team, commentator legend Brent Musburger now took a similar line. He regularly accompanies Raiders games on the radio.

“Like I told him in person: This whole thing was a paid-for contract killing,” Musburger told the Las Vegas Sports Network. “This was a set-up. One of the most obvious ones since I’ve been doing this job.” Musburger has worked in media since the 1960s. Among other things, he coined the term “March Madness” in connection with college championship basketball.

There is a reason for Musburger that over 750,000 emails were searched during the investigation, but only Gruden’s came to light. “They didn’t tell their typical media honchos. They didn’t release it through Adam Schefter or anything like that,” the 82-year-old said.

“They went to the ‘Wall Street Journal’ with it first. And when they saw Gruden was still a coach, they dumped the rest on the ‘New York Times’,” he continued to rant.

He finds it hard to prove his allegations. “A lot of outside people had access to the emails. The most difficult task for Gruden’s lawyers will be to prove that the data came from the league itself. However, if it was, the NFL should be ashamed of itself,” he concluded.
