New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is confident he’ll be ready to return to full action at training camp for the 2024 season after suffering a serious injury.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is already back on the field practicing and has no doubt he’ll be ready to go in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings – despite tearing the ACL in his right knee late last year.

Jones had no discomfort when he participated in one-on-one and 7-on-7 drills Thursday. “It feels good,” he said afterward. “It felt good just to get back in the swing of things and play football against a defense that moves. I thought it was good. We’re making progress and continuing to work on things.”

Jones’ goal has always been to be able to practice without restrictions by the start of training camp at the end of July. This goal seems to be achievable. He is not even wearing an orthosis on his knee. “His range of motion was good,” said head coach Brian Daboll.

Given his progress, Jones is firmly convinced that he will be ready for the start of the season. “I have no doubt about that right now,” he said.

Jones’ immediate future has seemed uncertain in recent months. According to “ESPN,” there were indications that the Giants would consider a trade into the top three of the 2024 NFL Draft to pick quarterback Drake Maye. But no such trade materialized. Maye was drafted by the New England Patriots.

Jones had been aware of those rumors. “I wasn’t thrilled about it. But I think stories like that are part of it at this level. I could just focus on myself. For me, it was about getting healthy and playing my best football,” Jones said. “I feel very comfortable on this team and my job is to get healthy and play good football. “

Varying performances, fat contract

Jones was surprisingly picked at No. 6 by the Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft and was the successor to franchise icon Eli Manning. His performance initially fell short of expectations. However, after leading the Giants to the 2nd round of the playoffs in the 2022 season, he received a four-year contract worth 160 million US dollars.

Until his injury, however, he was unable to justify the mega-contract. In six games, he threw two touchdown passes and six interceptions. If his performance doesn’t improve, his future in New York is still uncertain.
