Gardner Minshew is known for his outlandish actions. This offseason, the quarterback spent five months in an old bus, parking it right next to his fitness coach’s gym
Munich – It’s a story that only Gardner Minshew can tell.
While his colleagues were taking some well-deserved rest and relaxing by the sea during the offseason, Minshew got into a converted prison bus and travelled across the United States.
But that was not all: the cult quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles parked his unusual vehicle directly in front of the gym of his fitness trainer Anthony Tumbarello in Bonita Springs, Florida.
He stayed there for months until the Eagles’ training camp started.
Minshew: “I just love freedom “
“I just love the freedom the bus gives me,” the 26-year-old explained in a video he posted on Instagram: “It gives me a place to focus.”
Living in such a vehicle had been his dream since his high school days, Minshew further reported.
To make this dream come true, he bought an old prison van and turned it into his own little hippie cell: with a bright orange couch complete with white cushions and a whole row of record covers of bands from the 70s.
Add a few candles and a lava lamp. And the hippie life is complete. Minshew also took the opportunity to learn how to play the guitar.
But the main thing was to keep fit. He did his daily strength training in the gym that supplied his bus with electricity and water.
Minshew having breakfast at the gym
In general, his daily routine was very well organised. After he woke up, he went over to the gym, made himself breakfast in the microwave there and drank coffee.
Around 8:30 a.m., he went out on the field with his fitness coach and trained for two hours, followed by a session in the gym after a break. This is how it went day in and day out.
Minshew also used the toilet there because there is none in his coach.
“I don’t know any coach in the entire country who can say that a professional has driven up in a bus and eaten, slept and lived in the gym 24 hours a day to prepare for the season,” said Tumbarello.
Minshew frequently delivers curious actions
But it’s far from the only curious action Minshew – the quarterback with the distinctive moustache – has delivered.
Just remember his fight with giant fish or his attempt to break his hand with a hammer – just to be able to stay at his university for another year.

Also legendary are his stretching exercises, which he does half-naked in the locker room.
All this has led to a veritable “Minshew-Mania” in recent years, which has now been enriched by another chapter.
Minshew only knows “Super Bowl or nothing “
For all his meticulousness, he has to line up behind Jalen Hurts for the Philadelphia Eagles, but Minshew wants to be ready should his big moment come. “For him, it’s Super Bowl or nothing,” his private quarterbacks coach Denny Thompson is quoted as saying by “ESPN”.
He added: “When other players are jetting from island to island, he’s literally living on a bus outside a gym doing throwing drills three times a week all year.” He’s really taken to the bus. In Jacksonville, Minshew still owns a home, but has recently spent time on the bus in the city where his NFL career with the Jaguars began, Thompson continues.
But Minshew now wants to part with his beloved vehicle. For 25,000 US dollars he would sell it, or rather her – because in his eyes it is a female. More important to him than the price, however, is to know that she is “in a nice and loving home”.
All these crazy actions reveal that Minshew also has a big heart that beats primarily but not exclusively for football.
