Düsseldorf (SID) – The city of Düsseldorf is to be built up as the new centre of the US Football League NFL in Germany. Representatives of the billion-dollar league and Düsseldorf’s Lord Mayor Stephan Keller (CDU) signed a corresponding declaration of intent on Tuesday at the SPOBIS sports business congress in the NRW state capital.
Accordingly, Düsseldorf is to become the administrative centre of the NFL in Germany. “All German affairs of one of the biggest sports leagues in the world will then be controlled from Düsseldorf,” the league announced. In order to be more present in the city, the NFL will, among other things, be present with a float at the 2023 Shrove Monday procession.
Düsseldorf lost out to Munich and Frankfurt in the bid to host an NFL game in Germany. The league will play its first regular season game in Germany on 13 November in the Allianz Arena with the duel between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks. Until 2025, one regular NFL game will be played in Germany each year.
