In recent months, there have been more and more cases of NFL players placing bets without permission. Due to the accumulation of cases, the league has now published clear and unambiguous rules.

Calvin Ridley, Jameson Williams, Isaiah Rodgers – The list of names, including prominent ones, who have been suspended for illegal betting in the NFL is getting longer and longer.

Because of the steep rise in cases, the NFL has once again sent a memo to the teams to pass on to the players. The memo sets out clear and unambiguous rules and reminds players of them.

Rule number 1: Never bet on the NFL!

The first rule is the simplest and most important: players must not bet on the NFL in any way.

Be it Regular Season games, Postseason games, the Pro Bowl or even NFL Honors. So betting on the MVP is also strictly forbidden.

Rule number 2: Never bet when you are “on the field “

In principle, betting on other sports or going to the casino is not prohibited. However, the player may not then be at a team facility or on business travel

This means: Betting on other sports is also not permitted in the cabin, in the car park of the training grounds, in the team hotel or on the team plane. At home on the couch, however, this is possible.

Rule number 3: No one may bet for the player

Neither rule number one nor rule number two may be violated through third parties. So if a family member bets in the name of or on behalf of a player, that is equally forbidden

Rule number 4: Never reveal internal information

What every clear-thinking player should actually be aware of is also reiterated in the memo shared by the NFL: Never disclose intra-team information. That doesn’t just refer to betting.

Rule number 5: Don’t sign up to bet during the season

During the current NFL season, i.e. August to February, players are not even allowed to sign up with a betting office. Since the civil name is requested there, the league immediately becomes aware.

Rule number 6: Never play the so-called “Daily” version of Fantasy Football

The league does not prohibit players from playing the popular game of Fantasy Football, even against each other. If it is between teammates for a certain amount of money, there is also no violation of the rules.

However, there is also a so-called “daily” variant of the game, which is usually organised by betting companies. This is an advanced and more in-depth version that involves playing for real money against players all over the world.

Furthermore, all rookies have to undergo a training session at all teams. There they will be informed about all these rules and can also ask questions.

Whether all these measures will stem the tide of betting players remains to be seen.
