Antonio Brown is once again making negative headlines. For not paying outstanding bills, the Albany Empire, his team in the National Arena League, are now banned from the league.
It just doesn’t get quiet around Antonio Brown. After only about three months, his time as owner of the Albany Empire seems to be coming to an end. While Brown still currently owns the team, he can’t play anywhere with it at the moment, as the National Arena League (NAL) has kicked the team out.
The league decided to take this step because Brown had refused to pay his debts to the NAL.
In a statement, the league said, “After exhausting all options, the NAL Board of Directors has voted unanimously to terminate the Albany Empire’s membership. The decision was made following an emergency conference call of members in good standing to discuss Empire’s failure to pay League-mandated and overdue dues. “
NAL draws consequences
“After acquiring the Albany Empire, new team owner Antonio Brown paid the Empire’s April assessment. The team then failed to make the May 15 payment, and last week, just before the Empire’s game in Orlando, the league was notified that the April assessment had been appealed,” the NAL continued.
Accordingly, Alex Gunaris, Antonio Brown’s accountant, told league officials that his client was unlikely to make the outstanding payments.
As a result, the NAL was forced to expel the Albany Empire: “Unfortunately, Mr. Brown failed to meet the deadline for fulfilling his team’s financial obligations, and as a result, the league has terminated his membership agreement. “
