In the past few days and weeks, there have been repeated rumours about a possible trade of Kirk Cousins. Now, the quarterback has spoken out himself for the first time.
The NFL is approaching the annual trade deadline. Starting at the end of October, teams will no longer be allowed to move players back and forth between each other.
When it comes to players who could still change teams before that deadline, Kirk Cousins’ name often comes up.
The quarterback is a free agent after this season and the Minnesota Vikings’ season is effectively over after a 1-4 start. Especially with Justin Jefferson, their best receiver, out for at least four weeks. So on paper, a trade would make sense.
Cousins laughs at trade rumours: “Waste of time “
When asked about those rumours, Cousins was not enthusiastic. “All I care about right now is getting a win this week,” he said diplomatically. “Everything else is a waste of time and not worth my attention.”
Cousins has a so-called no-trade clause in his contract. This means that, unlike other lesser-known players, he cannot simply be shipped out without his consent. If he gives his consent, however, a trade could go through.
“Ignorance is bliss in this case,” said the quarterback, who is oblivious to all the discussion – or doesn’t want to be. “Aside from a couple of friends from high school who send me stuff like that, I don’t read anything,” Cousins continued.
Trades must go through by 9 p.m. on 31 October. The Vikings have until then to decide on the personnel of Kirk Cousins.
