Kansas City Chiefs: Britt Reid released early from prison – victim’s family “horrified”

The son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is released from prison early. An absurdity for the family of the accident victim.

After around a year and a half in prison, Britt Reid, former assistant coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and son of head coach Andy Reid, has been released early from prison on conditions. This was confirmed by a spokesman for Mike Parson, governor of the state of Missouri, who issued the pardon.

For the family of the five-year-old girl, who was seriously injured in the accident caused by Reid under the influence of alcohol, this is an absurdity.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, Tom Porto, the parents’ lawyer, said: “The family is appalled, I’m appalled, and I think the majority of people in the state of Missouri are appalled by the governor’s actions.”

He added: “If you drive drunk and put a little girl in a coma, you should have to serve the entire sentence that a judge in this state has handed down. “

In addition, little Ariel Young’s mother issued a special statement. “How would the governor feel if this was his daughter? It seems that the laws don’t apply equally to the rich and the dispossessed. The rich get perks. The poor serve time,” said Felicia Miller.

Early release from prison

Reid was released from prison before the end of his three-year sentence and is now under house arrest until October 31, 2025. The 38-year-old must also comply with various conditions, including weekly meetings with a probation officer and participation in behavioral training.

Reid must also work 30 hours per week and perform ten hours of community service per month.

He had caused a serious car accident under the influence of alcohol in early February 2021, a few days before the Super Bowl between the Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and was sentenced to three years in prison in November 2022.

Girl seriously injured in accident

He collided with several cars on an on-ramp to an expressway, Reid was traveling at 135 km/h, the speed limit was only 104 km/h.

Ariel Young, who was in one of the other vehicles, suffered serious brain injuries. A total of six people were injured. Reid was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.13 per mille two hours after the accident. The legal limit is 0.8 per mille.

The Chiefs subsequently reached an agreement with the girl’s family to pay for all medical treatment.

Governor longtime Chiefs fan

The governor’s spokesman explained that Reid’s pardon was granted because he had successfully completed an alcohol detox program and had already spent more time in prison than most people convicted of similar offenses.

Fun fact: Governor Parson has been a Chiefs season ticket holder his entire life and was also at the Super Bowl parade after the recent win against the San Francisco 49ers. However, Reid is just one of more than 760 people Parson has pardoned since 2020.
